Baby Sid
His birthing story
Hi Elke,
Rachel here, your hypno-birthing mum from early this year. Joel and I had a baby boy Sid Benjamin Elliott on the 7th April. He was a very healthy 8 pounds.
I was in Labour at home from the very early hours of Easter Monday 1.45am. I was able to be quite comfortable and peaceful all day listening to my hypno-birthing CD and doing my breathing.
After a day at home we headed into the hospital at 9pm. I was 5 cm and doing really well; still very calm and able to breathe through contractions. Things were going really well until I just would not dilate past 9 1/2 cm. There was just a little cervix that he could not get past. So things did not end up as we would have liked!
Buy this stage it was Tuesday morning and I had been in labour for hours. Sid was delivered by forceps at 9.50 am Tuesday as the next step was going to be a C-section so I was glad we were able to avoid that. I did have to use gas and was also given pethidine to try and help the cervix dilate, which it did. But I did not need an epidural.
Although things did not go as we wished I still believe that the hypno-birthing lessons we had and all the practice I put in was well worth it. I was able to stay calm at each and every stage and do my best to have a calm labour. Sometimes things don't always go to plan.
Being able to cope with every change that came our way was something I don't think I would have coped well with if I had not done the course. At the end of the day we have a beautiful little boy who is just a pleasure, loves to sleep and looks like his daddy!
Thank you Elke for helping us learn the tools to cope with whatever was going to come our way. I have and will continue to recommend you and hypno-birthing to all.
Thank you very much Rachel, Joel & Sid Elliott
